Before Ashley and Ryan meet their fans in Baltimore, we asked Ashley a couple of questions about her design and renovation preferences, and her experience working with her family.

Where do you get your design inspiration?

My design inspiration comes from nature - from the lakes and mountains, and also from the idea of recycling, reusing, and repurposing.

What home or renovation trends are you loving?

I love bringing the outdoors indoors with open layouts and repurposing old materials. I hope that finding eco-friendly building materials will emerge more as a trend in the future.

What do you enjoy most about the renovation process?

I most enjoy finding pieces when I am cleaning out cabins to be renovated that I can restore or repurpose into something else.

What do you enjoy most about the design process?

I like going through and choosing pieces of furniture that the homeowners have and editing out a lot of stuff that is old or junkie, and then bringing in different things and putting my touch on it

What’s your favorite paint color?

Benjamin Moore Hale Navy is my favorite paint color right now.

What is one project you tell people to NOT do as DIY?

As Cabin Masters, I don't think we would tell anybody not to do something as a DIY. If you have the proper tools and guidance, I think you can do just about all of it. Maybe I would suggest not doing insulation or spray foam. That's pretty yucky.

What’s the biggest challenge about working day-to-day with your family?

The best thing is I get to work with my husband. Working with family can be hard at times but we all love each other so we can get over things really fast if there's an argument or disagreement. We get to travel together in the most beautiful locations that we would be vacationing in, so it's the best of both worlds, although sometimes you just want a little break from them! And they know you too well, so you can't get away with anything!
